Fourcès and Montréal-du-Gers

Near our hotel and restaurant

Medieval fortress in the Gers

Our hotel by Fourcès and Montréal-du-Gers is ideally located to discover these two superb bastides (fortified villages), just 10 km from the Auberge.
Fourcès is an original, round bastide where the houses create a theatrical backdrop of half-timbering and arcades. Montréal-du-Gers, the oldest of the bastides in Gascony, was built on a rocky promontory by the Auzoue.

Fourcès and Montréal-du-Gers
Fourcès and Montréal-du-Gers, are listed as some of the most beautiful villages of France. They are little jewels at the heart of Gascony. Fourcès makes a mockery of the Cartesian ideals of the bastides, built around a ring of gently bulging houses which circle the central square, now shaded by plane trees and known for its flower market.
Montréal-du-Gers, a bastide built on a promontory below the Auzoue, was founded in 1255 by the Count of Toulouse. It was built on a grid plan, its roads leading to the central square with its arcades and half timbered houses. There, the Gothic church appears in the fortified section.
